Acts of Kindness

In today’s world, it can be disheartening to see the anger that surrounds us. However, you can combat this in a simple way — by encouraging your child to practice acts of kindness on a regular basis. This can help him understand that he has the power to make a difference by sharing God’s unconditional love with everyone around him. Show Kindness to Others

  1. Wheel out your neighbor’s trash bin on trash day.
  2. Send an encouraging email to someone in your life “just because!”
  3. Befriend a new student at school.
  4. Send someone in your life a cheery “good morning” or “good night” text.
  5. Listen when others speak, don’t judge, and keep an open mind.
  6. Cook a meal for a family at church.
  7. Have a game night with your grandparents.
  8. Help your parent or sibling around the house.

Show Kindness to Yourself

  1. Take a walk outside to enjoy nature and clear your mind.
  2. Drink more water.
  3. Try something new, whether it’s an exercise class, hobby, or recipe!
  4. Map out your family tree, and connect with relatives you do not often see.
  5. Start a regular exercise routine.
  6. Clean your room! Having a neat personal space helps you stay mentally healthy and happy.

Show Kindness to the Environment

  1. Heading out for some family fun at a movie, play, or concert? Use e-ticketing whenever possible to cut down on paper waste.
  2. Recycle your bottles, cans, and glass.
  3. Buy raw, local honey to help fight bee extinction, and plant bee-friendly flowers.
  4. Run errands by walking or biking. This cuts down on fuel consumption and gives you some exercise at the same time!
  5. Choose reusable bottles instead of plastic ones.
  6. Turn off electronics overnight, especially plug-in devices that consume extra energy when not in use!
  7. Pick up litter you find on walks.

Show Kindness to Animals

  1. Sign up to foster a shelter pet that’s waiting for a home.
  2. Visit and support local zoos and aquariums.
  3. Donate towels, blankets, and food to your local animal shelter, and volunteer there as a family
  4. Create a birdhouse, fill it with birdseed, and watch wildlife fly right into your yard!
  5. Encourage your child to research endangered species and ways that they can help.
  6. Pick up any trash you see on the ground outside to help fight littering.
