Christmas Sweater Craft Your Child Will Love

Tis the season for ugly Christmas sweaters! Use this creative DIY idea from Orange County Catholic schools to make miniature sweaters. Perfect for holiday parties or just a fun day, invite your child’s friends and make it a competition to see who can make the ugliest one. Children of all ages will enjoy crafting and competing.

Supplies
All you’ll need is red and green construction paper (cardstock and poster board work as well), scissors, glue, and whatever your child wants to decorate it with! Take him to the craft store and have him choose buttons, confetti, jingle bells, seasonal stickers, and Christmas pom-poms. Or, if you want to save money, you can find most of these items at the dollar store.

Instructions
Your child will start by drawing or tracing a sweater template on the red paper. Alternatively, you can print out a template directly on the paper and have your child cut the design out. For easy access and organization, place all the supplies in a tray that has separate compartments. Then, let him start decorating any way he wants! Allow him this one task with no rules. In the end, he’ll feel proud of his work. Glue a piece of ribbon or string to the back and hang it on the Christmas tree to show you are proud of his work, too!

Hit of the Holiday Season
This Christmas project will be a hit this holiday season! There’s a simple set up and easy clean up — every parent’s dream! Collage art activities give your child creative freedom that may not otherwise get anywhere else. Additionally, these types of activities are a great way for your child to develop fine motor skills. He will strengthen her hand muscles and practice hand-eye coordination just by doing little things like squeezing glue bottles and cutting items.
