Dive Into a Summer of Service
Summer is often thought of as a time to slow down, unwind, and enjoy family time — but it’s also the perfect season to begin volunteering at your church. Take a look at the reasons why you should dive into a summer of service for the Lord!Your Church and Community Need YouNo matter where you live or which church you go to, every church can use a solid team of volunteers! While it’s true that some ministries slow down over the summer, note that youth or children’s ministries are likely having their busiest time of year. Many regular volunteers often use the summer to take a week or two for vacation, so this is the perfect time for you to jump in! Offer to help out the hospitality team, take meals to your senior church members, or ask the youth ministry if they need any additional volunteers for any upcoming camps.Serving is God’s CallThe Bible tells us that God calls us to serve others. Ephesians 2:10 states that “we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” If you feel like you have nothing to offer your church, remember this scripture — God has already prepared you to serve! 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 talks about the body having many parts, likening the body to the church. Remember: “If the whole body were an eye, how could it hear? If the whole body were an ear, how could it smell? God has placed each part in the body just as He wanted it to be. If all the parts were the same, how could there be a body? As it is, there are many parts. But there is only one body.” You bring unique, valuable skills to your church, and whether you find your calling onstage, behind the scenes, or with Sunday school classes, your church can greatly benefit from you living and loving like Jesus.Charitable Acts Bring JoyProverbs 11:25 tells us, “Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” This is beautifully exemplified in volunteering. As we sacrifice our time to others, we often feel as though we benefit even more than those we help. And summer is the perfect time to experience this! Jump into one of your church’s summer activities or ministries to meet others, get involved, and spread God’s love. Our blog page has helpful hints for parents to encourage their children to excel academically, spiritually, and socially.
