DIY Christmas Gifts
Giving presents to friends and family reminds us of the frankincense, gold, and myrrh the Wise Men brought baby Jesus. It also reminds us that Jesus Himself was the greatest gift of all! God gave Jesus to us; therefore, we give to others. This Christmas, help your children make their own gifts for family and friends. Here are a few ideas:Photo CoastersSupplies Needed:
- Six 4x4 white ceramic tiles
- Six 4x4 printed photos
- Mod Podge
- 1-inch foam brush
- Self-adhesive felt pads
- Optional washi tape
Instructions:Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to the top of a ceramic tile. Carefully place a photo on top of the Mod Podge and let it dry completely. Apply three coats of Mod Podge to the back of the tile, and three coats to the front. Finally, stick the felt pads to the bottom of the coaster (to prevent scratching), and let the coasters sit for a few days to make sure the Mod Podge is completely dry!Winter Wonderland Salt and Pepper ShakersSupplies:
- Transparent salt and pepper shakers
- Salt
- Small toy trees, deer, or other tiny Christmas-themed items
Instructions:Fill salt shakers about halfway full with salt (to represent a snowdrift), then balance a Christmas tree or other holiday objects inside each shaker! Use as a table centerpiece and enjoy.Christmas Tea TreeSupplies:
- Styrofoam cones
- Individually-wrapped tea bags
- Glue gun
- Small paper mache box
- Wooden star
- Rice (to weigh down boxes)
Instructions:Beginning at the base of the cone, use the glue gun to attach tea bags. Move horizontally around the base of the cone and continue gluing, letting them overlap just a bit. Once you have gotten back to where you started, move up one row and repeat. Keep going until you’re at the top of the cone. Flip the cone over and hot glue the box to the bottom to represent the Christmas tree stem! Then, glue a wooden star to the top of the cone.Chalkboard Serving TraySupplies:
- 24-inch framing board
- Wood stain
- Wiping cloths
- Painter’s tape
- Chalkboard spray paint
- Handles of your choice
- Drills and nails
Instructions:Use wiping cloths to stain your wood. Next, put painter’s tape around the edges of the board. Spray the board with chalkboard paint, and drill your handles on either side. When giving as a gift, include chalk!Christmas Countdown CandleSupplies:
- Candle
- Printable sticker paper
- “Days until Christmas” countdown
Instructions:Print the countdown on sticker paper and place the sticker on the front of the candle’s glass, making sure to not leave any air bubbles under the sticker!
