Communities everywhere have one thing in common — there’s always someone who needs help. Serving the local community has numerous benefits for people of all ages, especially developing children. Volunteering gives children a unique opportunity to see the world from different perspectives while helping those in need. Here are a few of the ways community service helps those who help others.

Build Connections

Children who volunteer and participate in community service projects become more connected with those around them. They get to make friends they may have never met otherwise. This may include future business contacts who can help in their careers. By becoming more involved in the community, children become more connected to the world around them.

Foster Empathy

Problems in the community can seem far away to those who never see them up close. Volunteering gives children a chance to truly understand the issues that plague the less fortunate. In some cases, they’re able to meet people who are struggling up close. Volunteering helps children become more compassionate while they contribute to making the world a better place.

Improve Social Skills

When serving the community, children interact with diverse groups of people from all age groups and backgrounds. While volunteering, children learn about leadership and the value of working together for a common cause. Each volunteer serves a specific role for the day. This helps children better understand social environments and develop necessary social skills.

Catholic Education

Catholic schools require students to participate in acts of community service. Some even get parents involved. These schools see value in community, which is why they encourage children to become involved from an early age. Teachers work with students to plan out service projects that help the community where they need it most.

Catholic schools consider community service to be an essential part of a child’s education. For more than 50 years, the Diocese of Orlando, which includes the top Orlando Catholic schools, has been helping children grow to their fullest potential and become leaders within their communities. We offer unique and dynamic learning environments that engage students and encourage them to become confident and responsible adults. To learn more about what makes us different, contact us today.
