Outdoor Fun: Earth Day

Earth Day is here! This is the perfect time to find outdoor activities that you and the entire family can enjoy and that teach your children the importance of taking care of our world. Take a look at some of our favorite spots in the Central Florida area.Wekiva IslandAt Wekiva Island, you can rent a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard and glide along the scenic Wekiva River. You can also relax in a private “river bana” for the day, grab a bite to eat at The Tooting Otter, and challenge your family to a volleyball match. Make sure to check their events calendar before you go!Central Florida ZooLocated about 20 minutes from downtown Orlando in historic Sanford, this zoo is nestled in a protected natural wetland. It’s home to 23 acres of native gardens and over 500 animals, and it’s an excellent place to celebrate Earth Day and learn more about nature! The CFZ offers a children’s zoo, giraffe feedings, rhinoceros encounters, botanical gardens, and “Keeper Chats” where you can learn interesting facts about species from all around the world.Paddleboard OrlandoPaddleboarders of every level can enjoy a day on the water with Paddleboard Orlando. You can rent boards and kayaks, take lessons, or sign up for one of their exciting adventures! Float along with manatees, monkeys, or mermaids. Lukas NurseryDid you know that Lukas Nursery is home to a one-of-a-kind butterfly encounter? Their year-round butterfly and bird conservatory boasts the largest variety of native butterflies, as well as exotic and colorful finches. For only $6, you can feed butterflies from your fingertips. Lukas Nursery also offers the largest selection of butterfly host and nectar plants for the local butterfly population, so you and your child can put your new knowledge toward building your very own butterfly garden. The SpringsThere are so many different springs in the Central Florida area. Whether you want to encounter manatees at Blue Spring, tube down the river at Kelly Park, or cook your own pancakes at De Leon Springs, there’s something for everyone.Safari WildernessSelf-described as “Tampa and Orlando’s premier safari experience,” the Safari Wilderness Ranch is neither a zoo nor a theme park; you can enjoy the animals without crowds or lines. There are a wide variety of options to enjoy over 260 acres of wilderness.
