Prayers to Start School Mornings the Right Way

As your children return to their Catholic schools in Orlando this fall, it is important their mornings begin with more than a nutritious breakfast. Feed their hungry souls with a short, meaningful prayer such as any of these listed below, or you can make up a prayer of your own depending on the day’s schedule. The Diocese of Orlando’s website offers different prayers depending on your needs as well. Prayer to Begin a School MorningGod of wisdom and might,we praise You for the wonder of our being, for mind, body, and spirit.Be with our children as they begin a new school year.Bless them and their teachers and staff.Give the strength and grace as their bodies grow;wisdom and knowledge to their minds as they search for understanding;and peace and zeal to their hearts. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.Amen.As the school year progresses, feel free to replace the third line with “Continue to be with our children throughout the school year.”Prayer for StudentsLord our God,in your wisdom and love, You surround us with the mysteries of the universe.Send Your spirit upon these students and fill them with your wisdom and blessings.Grant that they may devote themselves to their studies and draw ever closer to You,the source of all knowledge. We ask this through Christ our Lord.Amen.Prayer for TeachersLord God, your spirit of wisdom fills the earth and teaches us in Your ways.Look upon these teachers.Let them strive to share their knowledge with gentle patienceand endeavor always to bring the truth to eager minds.Grant that we may follow Jesus Christ, the way, the truth and the life, forever and ever.Amen.You can also teach your children to say short prayers before they board the bus (God, please protect the driver and students on our bus), on exam days (God, grant me knowledge as I prepare for this exam), and sports (Dear Lord, keep all our players and coaches injury free during this game), or for any other event. Reinforce this habit with short prayers of your own before meals, bedtime, and anytime you drive. When your life includes these short missives to God, they become a way of life for your children. The Diocese of Orlando has several prayers on its website and blog pages – check them out! Contact the Diocese at 407-246-4800 to learn how you can enroll your child for the 2017-18 school year in one of our Catholic schools in Orlando.
