Showing Teachers You Care During Teacher Appreciation Week

Teachers work hard for our students. That’s why, the first week of every May, we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. While schools often host activities for teachers, it’s also a great time for you and your child to show how much you care. Here are some ways you can thank your child’s teacher for all they do during Teacher Appreciation Week:

Donate School Supplies

Classrooms could always use more school supplies for teachers and children in need. Refer to the school supply list you received at the beginning of the school year and any additional lists the school has on its website. If you’re not sure what your child’s classroom is missing, ask your child. Your child will know which items always seem to be running low. While an apple or a card is a nice gesture, what teachers really want is items they can use in the classroom.

Volunteer for Future Events

People are busy, so it’s understandable that schools can never seem to get enough parent volunteers. Take the initiative during Teacher’s Appreciation Week to see where the school needs help and how you can contribute. Look into future events the class and school are doing, and volunteer for ones where you think you can help the most.

Make a Personalized Gift

You may think that teachers get sick of seeing children’s arts and crafts projects, but that’s not typically the case. They love seeing their students’ minds at work. Get together with your child to create something nice that your child’s teacher can display in the classroom or at home. If your child is younger, shoot for something simple like a card or a project that doesn’t require too many materials.

Written Thank You Notes

If you and your child aren’t crafty and still want to create something nice for their teachers, consider buying thank you notes and writing personalized messages. Make sure to include messages of thanks from yourself and your child. There’s no such thing as being thanked too much, especially for teachers.
