With 27 years of experience, Jennifer Connell brings a wealth of knowledge to her AP Psychology classroom. Learn more about her and passion for working in education! How many years have you been teaching?I’ve been teaching at Bishop Moore for 15 years, but I’ve been teaching high school for 27 years! I taught at a Catholic high school in Massachusetts for 12 years. What did you want to be when you were little?I wanted to be a teacher or a princess! How do you engage your students in the learning experience?I teach my students to relate my class to real life experiences. Every day, we have class discussions where the students and I share examples of the topics we are discussing in class, thus increasing their understanding. Sharing real stories that relate to class topics has helped my students relate to and remember what they are learning in class! It’s my hope that students will be able to understand their family, friends, and society through studying AP Psychology. What’s your favorite thing about teaching AP Psychology?I love teaching AP Psychology because it’s easy for my students to relate the subject to real-life experiences. Students love to learn about subjects that they see around them every day; it’s a subject that will help them for the rest of their lives. I truly enjoy teaching all the concepts. However, we’re just beginning the psychological disorders chapter, which is usually a favorite of most of my students each year! How does your past professional experience affect your approach to teaching?I’ve been teaching for a long enough time to know that although times may change, students will always need to know that they are important, and they need to know what is special about them. I try to make sure that I find out what the best qualities are in each student and encourage them to show those qualities to everyone.  What is the most rewarding thing about your job?The most rewarding part of my job is finding out and knowing when I have made a positive difference in a student’s life. What do you enjoy about teaching at Bishop Moore?I love teaching at Bishop Moore not only because I can share my Catholic faith with and pray with my students, but also because I know that in times of need I have another family at Bishop Moore. What do you hope your students take away from being in your classroom?“The essential thing is not what we say, but what God says to us and through us.” — Saint Teresa of Calcutta
