Catholic Truths Every Child Should Know

Children are very curious about everything. So there comes a point in every Catholic child’s life when they start to ask questions about God and the Bible. “How do we know God is real?” or “Is everything in the Bible true?” are just a couple of questions they may have. Teach your child all of the Catholic truths every child should know.

Why God Created Us
Your child is likely wondering why we are here. God created us to serve Him in this life and to spread love and service. Simply reference John 17:3 in the Scripture, which states, “Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.”

How God Exists
Has your child asked you how we know God exists? We know God exists by simply looking at the world we live in. He created all the beauty that surrounds us. Look at Romans 1:20 in the Bible: “Ever since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes of eternal power and divinity have been able to be understood and perceived in what he has made.” God is all around us.

The Bible is a True Story of God’s Love
Is everything in the Bible true? The Bible is inspired, which means that God guides the human authors who wrote what God told them to. The Scripture teaches truth, so there are no falsehoods in the text. 2 Timothy 3:16–17 states that all scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, refutation, correction, and training in his righteousness. Therefore, anyone who belongs to God should know the stories of God and God’s people.

Why There is Evil
Everyone wonders at some point or another why suffering and evil exist. If God is all-loving and all-powerful, can’t he eliminate pain? But it’s important to note that God doesn’t cause suffering or evil; He permits it for human freedom. God gives us freedom so that we can choose to love him and choose to be good. God can even work good out of our bad choices. When His own son was murdered, He brought forth the greatest of goods, which was the glorification of Christ, along with our redemption. Remember Romans 8:28, which says that we know all things are good for those who love God, as we are called to His purpose.
