Celebrating Catholic Education During Catholic Schools Week

Education helps form children into who they’re meant to be, and attending Catholic school comes with many advantages. These schools have smaller class sizes, excellent teachers and staff, and a foundation of faith. There’s a lot to celebrate when it comes to Catholic education, which is why every Catholic school in the nation comes together once a year to celebrate Catholic Schools Week! This year, Catholic Schools Week will be taking place Jan. 30-Feb. 5. Here is a taste of what we celebrate during this week-long event:

Focus on Catholic Values

Most schools focus solely on teaching children material that will allow them to succeed academically. That’s one way Catholic schools differ. Our schools emphasize educating the whole child so students can succeed inside and outside of the classroom. By learning Biblical principles and life lessons during each of their classes, our students learn to be great people and grow to be responsible citizens.

Individualized Treatment

With a low student to teacher ratio, each child receives individualized attention beyond what larger schools can offer. Some students attend the same school from preschool to 8th grade, so by the time they graduate, they’re known by teachers and staff members. This allows every child to thrive, especially when it comes time to make big decisions like which extracurricular activities to participate in or which high school to attend.

Academic Excellence

Smaller classes allow teachers to focus more on each child’s education. This gives Catholic school students an edge when it comes to academic performance. When a child struggles with a subject, he can face it head on rather than fading into the background. There’s also more room for individual recognition, which encourages high performing students to keep up the good work. The results speak for themselves: Catholic school students have a nearly 100% acceptance rate into college and higher test scores on average.

Catholic Community

Children who attend Catholic school learn that they’re part of something bigger than themselves. By bonding with like-minded peers, these students feel included and, therefore, empowered to achieve big things. Teachers, staff, students and families form a strong community built on Catholic values. During Catholic Schools Week, this entire community comes together to celebrate what Catholic education has to offer.

We encourage all of our students, their families and the local community to participate in Catholic Schools Week. For more than 50 years, the Diocese of Orlando, which includes the top Orlando Catholic schools, has been helping children grow to their fullest potential and become leaders within their communities.
