How Orlando Catholic Schools Promote Mission Work

Spreading God’s love is one of the most important aspects of Catholic education. By the time students graduate from high school in the Orlando Catholic Diocese, they’ll have had ample opportunity to spread His love and His word. One of the many ways students can do this is by participating in mission trips. Here’s how our schools promote this kind of work:

What is Mission Work?

The Catholic Church has always sent missionaries to spread the good word around the world and preach the Gospel to all who will hear it. Today’s missionaries focus on improving the lives of the people they visit. Our schools do this by donating goods and services, providing educational opportunities, and visiting underprivileged areas. Students at Bishop Moore Catholic School and members of the Diocese of Orlando Mission Office Team combine forces to do missionary work at our sister diocese.

Mission Work in the Dominican Republic

Students at Bishop Moore have the opportunity to help out and visit our sister diocese, San Juan de la Manguana, in the Dominican Republic. They can explore the mountains while bringing Christ’s care to the people of this small town. Juniors and seniors at Bishop Moore can apply to go on mission trips or help the students from the diocese who come to the United States to learn.

International Students

Some of the students from San Juan de la Manguana come to Bishop Moore for their high school education. Carmen, Jennifer and Julio started sophomore year as international students at Bishop Moore in August 2021 after a year of online learning. The COVID-19 pandemic prevented them from starting at Bishop Moore their freshman year. Jennifer dreamed of studying at Bishop Moore since childhood, so she was thankful to finally start attending in person.

“It feels amazing because it is a great school,” Jennifer said.

These students have spent their first semester learning about the English language, American culture, and the variety of foods Central Florida has to offer. They’ve all had a great experience working alongside other Bishop Moore students, who they find to be kind and accepting. Going from a small mountain town to a large city has been a huge transition and an overall positive experience for these students.

Mission work is just one of many ways our students learn to spread God’s love and His word. For more than 50 years, the Diocese of Orlando, which includes the top Orlando Catholic schools, has been helping children grow to their fullest potential and become leaders within their communities. We offer unique and dynamic learning environments that engage students and encourage them to become confident and responsible adults. To learn more about what makes us different, contact us today.
