The Catholic Diocese of Orlando has an academic curriculum deeply rooted with the Scripture. At our schools, children are students of Christ. It’s important to know that we not only believe in God, but we know him. We have gathered just a few of the many lessons from the Bible that your child should know. With these lessons, he will grow up into a good human and responsible adult.

Deuteronomy 6: Do What is Right
The Bible teaches morals and values that will help raise your child to be a good human being. Deuteronomy 6 teaches us that we should do the right thing. In verse 18, it reads: “Do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may go well with you, and you may enter in and possess the good land which the Lord promised on oath to ancestors, driving all your enemies out of your way, as the Lord has promised.” Your child can carry this lesson throughout his life, as he faces challenges and dilemmas that may make him question what to do.

Mark 12: Put Others Before Ourselves
As Catholics, we are taught the significance of stewardship and service. Jesus taught us how to give blessings to others. Help your child understand this way of life with Mark 12:31, which says you should love not only God, but your neighbor as well. Jesus said, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” which the Bible says, “There is no other commandment greater than these.”

John 8: Be Truthful
The Scripture encourages honesty, and in chapter eight of John, it teaches a lesson in telling the truth. In versus 31–32, Jesus said, “If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” These words not only teach your child about truthfulness, but to put his faith in God’s word.

John 5: Love God
All throughout the Bible, we learn to have love and faith in our Lord and savior. The power in prayer can change anything for us. Teach your child that Jesus answers prayers so he can understand His love for us. In 1 John 5:14, the Scripture says, “And we have confidence in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us.”
