Love Like Jesus With Love Languages

We demonstrate our faith to the world by putting love at the core of our actions. However, everyone has a different love language! Take this quiz to discover your own love language, and then take a look at how knowing the languages of those around you can help you love like Jesus. What Are the Five Love Languages?Physical Touch: This person values physical connection. Whether it’s an appreciative hand on the arm, hugging, or holding hands, this person feels concern and care through touch. It’s important that you are physically present and accessible for this person.Quality Time: What this person needs is your full, undivided attention - no television, no phone, no book - and they will feel truly special and loved knowing that they come before all of your tasks and activities. Distractions, postponed dates, or poor listening are hurtful.Words of Affirmation: Actions may often speak louder than words, but for a person with this love language, words speak just as loud — if not louder. From a simple “I love you” to a large, unexpected compliment, this person feels special when you take time to verbally appreciate them. On the other hand, be especially careful when delivering critique or criticism; unkind words are not easily forgotten.Acts of Service: “Let me do that for you” are the words this person loves to hear. Put time, effort, thought, and energy into taking items off of their to-do list, but most importantly, do all of it with positivity. If you sulk immediately after they accept your offer to vacuum or cook dinner, the value of your service will be lost! Laziness, broken commitments, and making more work for them will communicate that their feelings don’t matter.Gift Receiving: This language is not about materialism or expense, but rather that you thought of them and value them more than whatever was sacrificed to get this gift. If you have someone in your life with this language, don’t miss a birthday, anniversary, or little everyday gestures, and don’t give a thoughtless gift. How Does This Help? Now that you understand love languages, how will this help you love the people around you like Jesus does?Knowing the love languages allows you to recognize when someone expresses love to you in a different way. If someone communicates in a love language that’s not your own, you might miss their kind intentions. It also helps you better communicate your own affection. Ask your spouse to take the quiz, and your children too if they are old enough! Knowing their love languages and choosing to speak them is an intentional way to value them, appreciate them, and acknowledge their needs. Philippians 2:4 says, “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” It can be easy to share love in the way you know, but it’s rare for two spouses to have the same language, much less with your children; put their interests and needs above your own. Learning the love languages helps you communicate your appreciation and love for them in meaningful ways! The Orlando Catholic school's blog page has helpful hints for parents to encourage their children to excel academically, spiritually, and socially.
