Saints march on Holy Family Catholic School
“I want to march in the All Saints Parade” echoed throughout the Holy Family Catholic School parking lot as students from grades PK3 through 2nd dressed and marched as their favorite saints. St. Patrick, St. Ann, St. George and St. Mary, among many others, paraded in front of adoring parents and upper classmates to celebrate the lives of the saints on this day before All Saints Day.
In preparation for this day, 3rd grade students have been studying the saints and created puppets depicting the special qualities of their favorite saints. They also paraded behind the costumed students in the procession.
All Saints Day, celebrated November 1, commemorates all of the saints of the church and is also called All Hallows Day. So, in place of the more secular Halloween festivities, students can still dress up with a very special purpose in mind.
Sr. Dorothy Sayers, Principal of HFCS, said, “In celebrating our Catholic identity, imitating the saints draws us closer to them and urges us to follow their examples. Halloween, after all, falls on All Hallows Eve.”
Additionally, students decorated pumpkins in order to create fantastical and funny scenes using multiple materials for all of the Holy Family community to enjoy.
