Spring Break Hikes

This spring break, do something a little bit different with your family. Bask in the beautiful Florida scenery we are surrounded by. The best schools in Orlando have compiled a list of great Florida hiking destinations for you and your child to explore!

Little Big Econ
Little Big Econ State Forest is one of the most popular recreation destinations in Orlando. The forest protects more than 9,500 acres alongside the Econlockhatchee River, which meets the St. Johns River. With an extensive trail, you and your child will have access to nature in Seminole County’s rural lands.

Disney Wilderness Preserve
It’s not an Orlando blog without a mention of Disney! Located in Kissimmee, The Disney Wilderness Preserve gives you a front-row seat to Florida’s conservation efforts. Home to more than 1,000 plant and animal species, it has become a national model for sustainable development. After you enjoy your outdoor adventure, head on over to Mickey Mouse’s home for some dinner!

Wekiwa Springs State Park
Less than an hour north of Orlando, Wekiwa Springs State Park is a natural spring located near the major attractions. Keep in mind during the springtime, you’ll likely come across alligators. Remind your child to keep his distance and to not disturb them.  The park is open every day from 8 a.m., and it’s just six dollars for parking. Known for its swimming hole, you can swim and then camp after your hike!

Three Sisters Springs
If you’ve done Wekiva Springs trails too many times, it’s time to take it a bit farther. Take a day to drive an hour and a half west of Orlando to the small town of Crystal River, where you’ll find Three Sisters Springs. Part of the national wildlife refuge, these springs offer the opportunity to kayak and swim, and if you’re lucky, you’ll spot a manatee!

For more than 50 years, the best schools in Orlando have been helping children grow to their fullest potential and become leaders within their communities.
