Thanking an Officer During National Law Enforcement Week

bodyworn-794110_1920National Law Enforcement Week is May 15-19; St. James Cathedral School in the Diocese of Orlando is celebrating with their school resource officer (SRO), Officer Keith Gibson, throughout the week. Law enforcement officers protect your children and property every day; thanking them daily is a great idea, but setting aside a week every year to give them home-baked treats, a handmade card, or to say a prayer will certainly boost their spirits. The best private schools in Orlando will be praying for officers during National Law Enforcement Week, ensuring their safety and the safety of those they protect and serve. Below are a few ideas on how to thank the law enforcement officers in your area.

  • Write a thank-you note: A letter or thank-you note for one specific action or incident will let your school resource officer know you remember and appreciate him or her. If you have not had any personal contact with Officer Gibson or your SRO, chances are great he needs a thank you because the safety of your school is running so smoothly.
  • Bake cookies, bread, or brownies: Homemade goodies are always appreciated. If you have no time to bake, stop by a bakery for muffins or consider a fruit basket.
  • Gift certificates: As a class, consider giving your SRO or another important law enforcement officer a gift certificate to a local restaurant, sports venue, or theater.
  • Pay it forward: When you see an officer eating lunch at a restaurant between May 15 and 19, pay for his or her meal.
  • Make a donation: Several organizations support the spouses and children of fallen officers, such as C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors). Donations to these important causes are always appreciated.
  • Donate your time: As a class, clean up the SRO’s office, beautify the landscaping outside the patrol office, or have his or her vehicle detailed.
  • Have a luncheon: Cater a lunch in the cafeteria or have parents bring in potluck goodies to share with the school.

Your local law enforcement officers work diligently to reach out to the community; return the favor during National Law Enforcement Week. Read our blogs for information pertaining to our schools.
