Activities for Children in an At-Home Prayer Space
Even outside of a social distancing world, your child should have a prayer space at home. Her connection with God is important. Show your child that God is among us by setting up an at-home prayer space and participating in these activities!
Cathedral Creation
Create a beautiful and personal prayer right in your home. Designate an area for the space, then make it yours by displaying your favorite religious images, statues of Mary, the Bible, the Rosary, and more. Be sure it’s a quiet area to focus on prayer. Visit your family prayer space with your child for all of the holidays and your at-home prayers, including the Crowning of Mary and healing Scripture verses for difficult times.
Write a Prayer
Have your child practice writing her own prayers. If you haven’t already, buy her a prayer journal, or make a prayer box. Give her prayer prompts, such as “I thank God for…” or “I pray to God that…” and have her complete the sentences. She can write them directly in her journal as a keepsake, or drop it in her prayer box. By doing this, she will feel like God is listening to her.
Make Rosary
Teach your child the Rosary by having her make a DIY one! This fun arts and crafts activity requires just string and beads, including a large bead to represent Hail, Holy Queen, and a cross pendant. In just a few steps, she has her own personalized Rosary! After she creates it, make sure your child knows how to properly pray the Rosary.
Digital Devotion
Incorporate church celebrations at home with these virtual resources. Digital media has come a long way. Many local and national parishes are livestreaming their Mass on social channels like YouTube and Facebook. Play faith radio and podcasts, and watch Masses on television. Even through a screen or headphones, your child will feel God with her at all times.
