Celebrating Catholic Schools Week

Catholic Schools Week has been celebrated annually since 1974, showcasing Catholic schools across the nation and all they are able to provide for their communities. This year, Catholic Schools Week takes place January 29 – February 4. Each day, the Orange County private schools in the Diocese of Orlando will focus on a different facet of Catholic school life.

  • Sunday – In Our Parish: Catholic churches in the Diocese of Orlando devote special Masses to Catholic education for the opening of Catholic Schools Week. Throughout the year, parishioners contribute their time and talents to our schools. In turn, schools will invite parishioners and community members to share their enthusiasm for Catholic education with Open Houses across the county.
  • Monday – In Our Community: Service is an important aspect of Catholic education. The schools dedicate today to spread God’s word and work in their community. Working in food banks, nursing homes, and other areas where a need exists, Catholic students give back frequently, and today is one of the days set aside for students to showcase their service. This day of appreciation touches the students as much as the community.
  • Tuesday – Celebrating Students: Activities today recognize student achievements and encourage students to realize the positive aspects of a Catholic education.
  • Wednesday – Celebrating the Nation: Catholic school supporters – students, educators, and parishioners – contact government leaders to share the contributions Catholic schools give to the nation today. This is also a day of national prayer.
  • Thursday – Celebrating Vocations: Students are given the opportunity to explore the lives of those who serve God. A religious vocation, nurturing a family, the sacrament of marriage, volunteering in any aspect of Mass or for the Church, or pursuing a career that makes the world a better place are all vocations students can contemplate.
  • Friday – Celebrating Faculty, Staff, and Volunteers: Teachers, principals, administrators, and staff are all recognized for their dedication. Parents, grandparents, alumni, parishioners, and community members are also thanked for their continuous volunteering.
  • Saturday – Celebrating Families: Families are vital in a student’s Catholic education. Raising children in faith and instilling positive values such as studying, being polite, and having a positive outlook definitely helps children succeed in school. Along with raising successful students, family members are also recognized for their contribution to Catholic schools in the form of volunteerism.

Be sure to visit one or more of our Catholic schools during Catholic Schools Week. Many schools have a specific time and date for their Open House while others would gladly take you on a personal tour of their facilities. With one phone call to 407-246-4903, you can speak to a representative at the Diocese of Orlando to find out when the Orange County private schools you wish to visit can accommodate your busy schedule.
