The Orange County Catholic schools have devised ideas for your family to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year! Use these arts and craft ideas to celebrate and spread the message of love. With these fun and budget-friendly activities, you will certainly have the best Valentine’s Day yet. Not only do they encourage your child’s imagination and creativity, but they also create a happy environment in which he can thrive and create memories with you.

Hand-Made Valentine Cards
You can make beautiful handmade Valentine Day’s cards for your friends and family with just a few pieces of paper. It won't take all afternoon, and you’ll have wonderful, personalized sets of cards to give out. You’ll need a sheet of white or colorful paper, clear tape, scissors, drawing markers, and glue. Simply fold the sheet of paper in half and get creative! You can even cut out shapes and glue them to your card. After you are done decorating, write a meaningful note, and you’re done!

Crafty Decor
Another fun activity is creating a painting. You don't even need brushes for this one! Just beware — it's going to get messy. With a blank canvas and a couple of paints, you and your child can have fun finger painting and create a beautiful Valentine’s Day design. A cool bonus is that you can hang the finished painting in your kitchen or your child's room!

Outdoor Crafts
If your child likes animals, we have an idea that will make him smile. This year, you can create Valentine’s Day bird feeders easily with your family. To make these you will need:

  • 3/4 a cup of flour

  • 1/2 a cup of water

  • 1 or 2.5 teaspoons of unflavored gelatin

  • 3 tbsp. corn syrup

  • 4 cups birdseed

  • 1 chopstick

  • String

  • Cooking spray

  • Heart-shaped cookie cutter

Using a spoon sprayed with cooking oil, mix all the ingredients in a big bowl. Then, spray a heart-shaped cookie cutter and fill it with the birdseed mixture. Pack it down, and punch a hole in each of them with the chopstick. Arrange the hearts on a sheet of parchment paper and let them sit overnight. Once they become firm, you can hang them up by tying string through the holes in the hearts. Choose the perfect spot to place your new bird feeders. Then, all you have to do is sit and wait until the birds come!
